Easy Onboarding Steps for your Electronic Departmental Order (eDO)

Follow the Onboarding steps below to register online for your personal FBI background check.

1. Register Online – Find a convenient location and register online at our Departmental Order (eDO) Applicant Portal.
2. Choose a Location – over 700 locations in our network.
3. Fill in the online form with your personal information and choice of optional services if desired. Besides online results, you can request a paper print of your results on secure watermarked paper, with either USPS mail delivery and 2-day Priority Service. (This selection is in Form Step #7, Demographics, on the lower right side of the page where it says Report Delivery and Pricing Options.) Note: few vendors provide the option of a hard copy of your results like we do.Only we include delivery tracking with all mailed responses.
   
   NOTE: Per FBI requirements, Departmental Order result letters cannot be mailed to a Post Office (PO) box address. Also, applications submitted from outside the U.S. cannot be accepted or processed. Results can only be picked up within the United States or its territories. Please contact the FBI if you need to apply internationally.
4. Payment – We tokenize and encrypt your credit card information for the most secure e-commerce experience. (We never see or store your credit number.)
5. Receipt confirmation includes QR code. Bring this with you to the fingerprint location chosen above. Bring 2 valid forms of identification*, including one government issued photo ID.
6. Scan the QR code to verify your enrollment information.
7. Fingerprints are captured with assistance from a site technician.
8. Fingerprints are submitted real time to the FBI for processing.
9. Results notification is sent via email with instructions for pick up on your personal computer. Note: this is a one time digital download. To print results, you will need to log in from a computer.
10. Same Day Results – often available before you arrive back home.

NOTE: It is the applicant’s responsibility to verify that the registration information is correct. We are not responsible for transactions completed with inaccurate personal information.

You will need to show your receipt (with QR code) when you visit one of our Collection Network sites for fingerprinting.

Refunds before fingerprinting are subject to a $25.00 reprocessing fee. Refunds are not granted after fingerprinting occurs.

What is an eDO?

An eDO is a Departmental Order 556-73 process that allows the applicant to collect their results electronically (online). The Departmental Order 566-73 allows an individual to request their criminal history record (“rap sheet”) — or prove that a criminal record history does not exist. A departmental order may also facilitate the expungement process.

The Criminal History Report (CHRI), is one component of an FBI Identity History Summary (IdHS) check. The report contains information submitted to the FBI related to arrests, and in some cases, may also contain other information such as federal employment, naturalization or military service.

*What are valid forms of identification for an FBI background check?

A current government-issued ID such as a state driver’s license or ID card, or a U.S. Passport are commonly used as a primary ID. Examples of acceptable secondary IDs are a government issued birth or marriage certificate, a Social Security card, a current school ID with photograph, a Certificate of Citizenship (N-560) or a Certificate of Naturalization (N-550).
