School safety and biometrics

Biometrics are being used to help improve school safety.

With over 50 school shootings in the US this year, schools are looking to enhance safety and security. Biometric systems, like Watch by ROC, use facial recognition, license plate detection and suspicious object and weapon detection to detect threats and notify school authorities.

The Department of Justice’s COPS School Violence Prevention Program, has awarded over $1 million in funding to five Ohio districts to improve school security measures, including upgrading old camera systems with new cameras that have more capabilities and also to change the school buildings’ outdoor locks with a biometric system.
