In Illinois, a Temporary Registered Professional Nurse generally refers to an out-of-state nurse who has been granted a Temporary Nursing Permit by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Because Illinois is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) – which allows multi-state practice – nurses moving to Illinois or travel nurses taking short-term assignments in Chicago or other local areas rely heavily on these temporary permits to start working immediately without waiting months for standard state processing.
Accurate Biometrics can process in-state or out-of-state applicants for Illinois nursing, including temporary nursing permits.
For instructions on how to get live scan fingerprinting for licensure, visit our IDFPR Applicant Instructions page.
Applicants will need to apply under the correct purpose code (ORI number). For a list of Illinois health care purpose codes visit our Illinois ORI Number page.
