How to know which Illinois Personal Background Check is Right for You

Use the following chart to see which type of background check is for you. For example, a person wishing to employ a Nanny can request a UCIA fingerprint background check on the applicant before hiring. A person interested in expungement or record clearing would choose an Illinois Access and Review, the most complete Illinois background check.

• Applicant was requested to get copy of their criminal record (or “No Record” response) for an employer or third party, when the requester is not legally required to conduct a background check
Typical Purpose of Check:
• Applicant wishing to view their entire Illinois Criminal History Record for accuracy or
“Record Challenge” purposes.
• Applicant wishing to use their entire Illinois Criminal Record for other uses such as expungement
• NOT allowed for employment

How Do I Check on My Prints?

If we verify that your prints have been processed and your requesting agency has not received a response from the Illinois State Police (ISP), you can contact the ISP for an update. You must have the Transaction Control Number from your receipt

The ISP prefers an email request at [email protected]; to contact the ISP by phone call 815-740-5160, then select option #2.
