Individuals in California have the right to request a copy of their own criminal history information from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to review for accuracy and completeness.
How can I obtain my own State of California Criminal History Report? To receive a copy of your own criminal history record, you will need to be fingerprinted. In the Los Angeles area we have a walk-in fingerprinting location. To apply by mail, please contact the California Department of Justice for information.
A fingerprint-based background check returns more accurate and complete results than a non-biometric, name-based check. Fingerprint-based checks eliminate the risk associated with background checks in which an individual may have a common name, use an alias, or give a false date-of-birth – any of which could adversely affect the results of a name-based background check of a public database.
Our fee is $45, which includes the $25 processing fee for the DOJ.
